when i close my eyes
and try to clear my mind
to call on something random to surface,
the only thing that comes to mind at this very moment
is this:
Get straight, wait here while I try to find the exit sign
When we stop asking strangers, no one wants what we want
Keep one eye on the door, keep one eye on the bag
Never expect to be sure
You're working for the police and the private, the pirates and the pilots
Fingerprinted waiting for the train
The doctor, the writer, the hairdresser,
Felt up and fingerprinted waiting for the train
Lord lord mother, you're all losing love
Lord listen lover, you're all missing mama
Lord lord mother, you're all losing love
Lord listen lover, you're all missing something I don't got
There's a place that ends here I know
When they close the gates I'll cry
I'm so tired of never sleeping
The whole world wants what we're on
Didn't make this up I learned, I learned it from a friend
My friend is coming clean, she told me
Keep one eye on the door, keep one eye on the bed
Never expect to be sure, who you're working for
You're working for the police and the private, the pirates and the pilots
Fingerprinted waiting for the train
The doctor, the writer, the garbage collector
Fingerprinted waiting for the train
Lord lord mother, you're all losing love
Lord listen lover, you're all missing mama
Lord lord mother, you're all losing love
Lord listen lover, you're all missing mama
Lord lord mother, you're all losing love
Lord listen lover, you're all missing mama
Lord lord mother, you're all losing love

Got to get out
Got to get to you, the orphanage is closing in an hour

everything in its right place.
In its rigggghhhhttt place.
I promised myself this morning that I would do nothing today but rearrange my room and clear out some disorganized cupboards and drawers. So far, so good. (Just taking a little breather right now.) To keep my sanity through all this, I cracked open the Radiohead box set I picked up the other day. I figured I'd start chronologically with Pablo Honey and see how many albums it takes me to get everything done. I'm on OK Computer right now. Still quite a bit to go ;)

when Christmas felt like Christmas.
Going out each year to cut down the ol' Christmas tree was almost a sport for my family. We went pretty much every year when my sister and I were kids. My mom always laughs at this pic because she says it captures our personalities perfectly; the expressions on our faces say it all. My sister was the active, enthusiastic one and I was the one who would rather be doing something else. I can just imagine what was going through our minds the moment this shot was snapped...
Rosie: Daddddyyyyy, I wanna hold the saw! Daddy I wanna cut itttt; I'm gonna cut it all by myself, lemme cut it myself!!!
Linda: This sucks, man. I'm so cold. Hurry up with this pic.
I can really appreciate it all now, though. I love my parents for doing all these extra things they really didn't have to do. These were the cozy, happy Christmas seasons I'll never forget. xox.

Ash Wednesday.
I've been listening to Elvis Perkins' Ash Wednesday for months now, and I must say it's one of the best albums I've heard in years. It really is a special and meaningful work of art; beautifully written to reflect the personal tragedy he's experienced over the years. Elvis is the son of actor Anthony Perkins (best known for his role as Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho). Anthony Perkins died of AIDS in 1992 and Elvis writes about the loss poetically throughout the album. The death of his mother is another very significant part of his songs. She died tragically on 9/11 aboard the first flight that was flown into the World Trade Centre. Ash Wednesday is a chronological sequence of songs written before and after the events of 9/11 and her death.
"Tragedy has always been a source of beautiful, hopeful art. In American folk music, several examples spring to mind. The Depression provided the subject matter for singers like Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly. Later, the Vietnam-era inspired timeless musical contributions from Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and countless others. With the turmoil of the last six years—9/11, Afghanistan, Iraq—there is perhaps no artist who embodies the sense of general hardship and upheaval like Elvis Perkins."
"One of the most highly-anticipated debuts in recent years, Perkins does not disappoint. His songs tend to be fairly lengthy, poetic and slightly obscure explorations of lofty themes, and have thus garnered countless comparisons to Dylan and Leonard Cohen."
1. While You Were Sleeping
2. All The Night Without Love
3. May Day !
4. Moon Woman 2
5. It's Only Me
6. Emile's Vietnam In The Sky
7. Ash Wednesday
8. The Night And The Liquor
9. It's A Sad World
10. Sleep Sandwich
11. Good Friday

Happy Holidays.

This is one of my favourite creative ads of all time; created by the talented artists at AdBusters magazine. Oh, the irony.
I remember when this specific issue was released years ago. Patrick and I were flipping through the pages on our way to class and when we got the page with this photo - whoa. The word powerful is an understatement.
Mission accomplished, AdBusters.

I'm not a valedictorian but I play one on tv.
Lord baby Jesus; tiny infant Jesus laying in a manger....
get me through this work week, please.
I've never felt so unmotivated and drab about jumping into a project.
I've got two deadlines for this Friday and I've barely attempted either of them yet. Ontop of that I was thrown a new product launch and will eventually have to put together a small presentation for the department. Right now I'm drinking my coffee and staring at the folder icon entitled CUSTOMER ART DEC 2007. My finger just does not wanna click on her.
I really want to play a video game right now; maybe get a little drunk. Pizza sounds good too. I like pizza.
I'm gonna tackle this work after lunch, full force.
Get'r done.

Juno
A friend just informed me that the film Juno comes out in theatres this Friday. If you haven't already heard, this is a Canadian film that received excellent reviews at this year's Toronto Film Festival and was ranked 2nd favourite by audiences. Check out the trailer. Should be a sweet one.

RGB.
The Science Centre rules. It's even more fun now that I'm a grown up. Lots of new educational exhibits, new high-tech areas and a surprising amount of Science Centre classics still maintained regularly (except for the piano that plays itself :( that is no longer with us, friends. *sigh*). I really really wanted to get a shot with the big static ball, but the little runts kept pushing.
Gonna post more sometime soon.
re: reformat.
Really need to reformat this laptop. BAD. I wish the damn rainbow wheel would stop spinning every time I touch the mouse. That's it. That's all I wish for this Christmas.

I really dislike the radio. Especially right now since it's really cold and I haven't had an ounce of coffee yet. It's 9:09am. Chum fm is streaming on my computer, and now, JUST now, Nickelback's Rockstar has just begun. Could this be the gayest song ever? It's the gayest song ever.

nobody's little weasel.
Last night started out to be a bit of a disappointment. I was supposed to watch I'm Not There at the Cumberland theatre @ 10:10pm. Unfortunately, this plan was thrown out the window as soon as those delightful, wet flakes started a-fallin' from the sky. Ended up at Blockbuster with Mikey trying to find something interesting to watch at home instead. Originally, I'd suggested The Basketball Diaries since he had never seen it. No luck; this didn't exist at the Hwy 7 location. Booo. American History X was his next suggestion since I'd never seen it. Nope. All copies rented out. We then decided to split up and browse the aisles to see what we could come up with in a matter of 10 minutes before they closed. Mike crept up and approached me holding the famous Amélie cover. I gave him my delighted look of approval. I'd been meaning to see it for a while and I was so pleased that he actually recommended it and I didn't have to sell it to him or beg. The movie was charming; witty; hilarious; brilliant. Everything from the script to the style in which it was filmed was a breath of fresh air. Films like this make me happy and hopeful.

cereal nostalgia.
Oooooo fuckin' weeeeeeee. Pac Mac Cereal. That delicious video-game in a bowl that would get any 6 year old's ass out of bed for school. I absolutely loved this cereal. Crunchy corn pops together with a colourful selection of little ghosts, and of course, the giant yellow pac mans (arguably the largest cereal marshmallow ever created).
Bring it back, bitches.
Bring it back.
