on the night shift.
I'm putting in a few overtime hours this week. Got 3 straight solid ones in so far and I've decided it's time for a short break. Another co-worker just brought me a green tea and it sorta tastes like stale sushi. I'm gonna drink it regardless.
There's an older man named Jesus walking up and down the hallway outside. I know his name is Jesus cause it says so on his white name tag. He's really shy and really spanish, and he comes into this room every night to empty out the trash/recycle bins under all the desks. Jesus (Hay-soos) always knocks before entering and gives a really kind smile as he reaches for the bins. Tonight I asked him if he'd be working late. He kinda giggled and muttered "Oh jes. Jes, i will stay ontil seben o'clock in de mowrning."
I really wanna squish him in the face and give him a big hug for being such a humble person. I hope the corporate asswipes pay him well.
Usually I dread coming in anytime after the sun has set, but lately I've realized that it's not so bad at all. I get to walk around in my socks and blast the YeahYeahYeahs; none of which I can do during regular 8-4 hours.

sleevefacin' with roddy.
Go, Go Gadget arms.
This was trickier than it looked; especially without a fancy tripod or at least another arm to hold the sleeve.
I was trying to find a medium between getting as much into the shot as I could and matching the perspective properly. It didn't help that Lisa kept yelling at me to JUST SNAP THE F'N SHOT! cause she was in pain from holding such an awkward pose for so long. By the time I had it almost perfect, I'd end up dropping to the ground and laughing to tears. Man, it's hard to keep a steady hand while your friend is posing behind Rod Stewart's raunchy mullethead. Too much fun.
On another note, Tuesday is really feeling like a Friday and the rest of my work week is gonna be torturous hell. I'll need a giant bottle of cheap wine and The Carpenters' greatest hits to pull me through this one.

There he lay: poet, prophet, outlaw, fake, star of electricity.
I finally picked up a copy of I'm Not There this weekend. I'd been meaning to check it out for the longest time but location and shitty weather always seemed to break plans of going to see it at the theatres this past winter. As mentioned by a ton of movie critics and film-lovers, this is a fantastic film; whether you're a Dylan fan or not. All six actors who portrayed a different version of him were memorable, but goddamn to Cate Blanchett. I can now say that I understand all the hype around her performance in this one. I had to remind myself over and over again that this was her acting in the film, and that I wasn't watching some unseen footage of Dylan from an old documentary or something. Amazing.
I was equally impressed with the artists who contributed to the sountrack with their own versions of his songs. Sonic Youth, Cat Power, Sufjan Stevens, etc. added their own spark to the film, although the one that really stood out for me was Jim James (frontman of My Morning Jacket) & Calexico's tribute to Goin' To Acapulco (as well as the haunting scene that went along with it).

James Jean//Travel Sketches.
Mother of God.
I wanna make out with his sketchbooks.
James Jean is absolutely phenomenal to me. I can't put into words how much I admire this man and his work. There's just so much precision and detail in his art, it's as if you're right there looking from the exact same angle he's sitting; and yet he leaves room for so much mystery and confusion at the same time. I've wanted to post something on him for a while now, but it's just so hard to select favourite pieces cause there's way too many to choose from and I usually end up getting flustered and closing the browser instead.
Fav artist, hands down.
Here are a few of his recent sketches, featured on his Process Recess site. Gonna post more of his work soon.

It's Michael. (Yeah Michael).
I wasn't a super spoiled kid growing up, and I honestly didn't ask or demand much from my parents. There were only a few things that I wanted so so bad. This doll was one of them. It was 1984. Michael Jackson was bloodclot hot, and I needed him in plastic form. He was packaged up like a dream; complete with tight flooded pants and thick, sparkly socks. I used to play the Thriller album and bend him at the joints so he could moonwalk across the kitchen table whenever I felt it was suitable. I remember leaving his glittery, bedazzled mitt at my cousin's house and I didn't see it ever again. I'll bet my aunt probably vacuumed it up by mistake or something. Michael was never the same since; and neither was I, but shit, I loved my parents for getting me that doll.
